Augmented Reality- Explored through the eyes of a Future Educator

Augmented Reality (AR) is another emerging technology, that is showing potential in the development and enhancement of education when it comes to technology use in the classroom. AR combines digital worlds with the physical world deepening students' learning experiences, making abstract concepts more tangible and interactive. According to a study by Kamarainen et al. (2013), AR technology can increase students' engagement and motivation in learning, leading to improved academic performance.

A promising AR technology that can be used in the classroom is ZapWorks. Zap works is a platform that allows educators to create their own interactive AR content without any coding experience. With ZapWorks, teachers can design educational materials that incorporate gaming mechanics, animations, and 3D models. These in turn help provide a more immersive learning experience for students.

ZapWorks can foster creativity in the classroom, enabling students to engage with educational content in a more playful and interactive way. By creating their own AR projects, students can develop their problem-solving skills and experiment with new ideas, leading to a deeper understanding of the subject matter. According to a study by Pereira et al. (2017), AR technology can also enhance students' creativity and imagination, promoting a more student-centered approach to learning.

One example of ZapWorks' potential in primary school education is in language learning. With ZapWorks, teachers can create AR flashcards that students can scan with their mobile devices to reveal 3D models, animations, or audio recordings. This approach can make language learning more engaging and interactive, helping students to retain new vocabulary more effectively. According to a study by Roos et al. (2016), AR flashcards can significantly improve students' vocabulary acquisition compared to traditional flashcards.

ZapWorks can also be used to enhance learning in science and mathematics. For example, teachers can create AR simulations that enable students to explore complex scientific concepts in a more interactive and visual way. Teachers can use ZapWorks to create AR math puzzles that challenge students to solve problems in a more engaging and interactive way.

A pedagogical challenge that may arise when using zapworks, is there is a variety of what students can be distracted and use the technology wrong. However this can be avoided with clear instructions, and timely turns on the technology.

In conclusion, ZapWorks and AR technology have the potential to revolutionize education by fostering creativity and promoting student-centered learning. By enabling educators to create their own interactive AR content, students can engage with educational materials in a more playful and interactive way, leading to deeper learning experiences.

Hi Olivia!

I really enjoyed reading this blog about augmented reality. I really enjoyed how you wrote from the perspective of a future educator exactly as we are. I also really appreciated how you included a video which showed exactly how your augmented reality is used.

I think you could have added even more images or other examples of ZapWorks in use as well! I enjoyed your link to pedagogical theories as well I thought that you explained them really well. Just be careful in your second last paragraph as there a few grammatical errors as well. Really well written though Olivia! You can be very proud of your blog.
